Orenburg lace is a Russian lace using only knit stitches using a unique construction technique. After the class you will have the appropriate skills to knit a Orenburg lace scarf or shawl, and how to read charted instructions.
In this class you will learn 10 different basic elements and several different edgings to make a sampler with mitered corners. You will also learn the basics of Russian grafting. During the first class you will cast on and practice the 10 basic elements and explore the different edges. In the second class, you will cast on and knit the edge for the sampler, turn the corner, then pick up stitches for the body and miter the second corner. During the last class you will learn to miter the third corner, knit the edge and miter the last corner before graphing the ends together.
Materials needed include either a lace or fingering weight yarn (preferably in a plain light color so you can see your stitches), US #2 (lace) or #3 or 4 (fingering) needles, stitch markers, and highlighter tape.
